The cell contacting system in the battery module
Battery cells are grouped into functional blocks, which are electrically connected to form the overall battery system. These blocks are housed together, creating what is known as a battery module. Typically, battery modules are connected in series of 8, with the cells within each module being connected both in parallel and series.
The pre-assembly of the cell contacting system occurs through a highly automated process on upstream production lines. These pre-assembly lines are either directly linked to the final assembly of the battery modules or function as an independent plant section. Depending on the design, cell connectors and current taps are automatically supplied, and the CCS base bodies are equipped with voltage taps and temperature sensors. The pre-assembled cell connectors are then integrated into the CCS carrier part. Optimal connection of the carrier parts, which protect the cell connectors and finalize the individual components into the completed cell contacting system, is achieved using ultrasonic or hot caulking processes. Following component marking for traceability, production data is transferred to the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and the cell contacting systems are output from the system.
